Three Additional GLN Implementation Workshops: Scheduled and Registration Open

34
Three GLN Implementation Workshops are scheduled for this fall. HSCA, along with GS1 Healthcare US, Association of Healthcare Resources & Materials Management (AHRMM),and the Strategic Marketplace Initiative (SMI) continues to sponsor practical, hands-on workshops designed for data managers, electronic data interchange (EDI) professionals, materials managers, and other supply chain professionals with front-line responsibility for implementing the GLN at their organizations.

These workshops are half-day training sessions customized for healthcare providers and suppliers. Instruction is offered by both provider- and supplier-based faculty who have implemented the GLN. In addition, experts from GS1 Healthcare US will give a live tutorial on the GLN Registry for Healthcare. Participants also have the opportunity to work one-on-one with faculty experts to review their individual hierarchies, GLNs and the GLN validation process.

Attendees will leave with the information and training they need to begin GLN implementation immediately. Participants will learn how to establish a GLN hierarchy, reconcile GLNs with GPOs, using GLNs in EDI transactions, declaring GLN readiness, and more.

As part of its “It Just Takes One” campaign, HSCA and its Committee for Healthcare e-Standards (CHeS) continues to reach out to the provider community to encourage every hospital to review and approve its GLNs and position itself for transacting with GLNs. In July of 2011, over 500 individual provider entities out of 5,500 known locations had declared “readiness” on the Global Location Number (GLN) Readiness Scorecard. By January 2012 that number had tripled, showing almost 100 organizations and close to 1,600 total facilities declaring GLN readiness. In March of this year Inside HSCA noted that the number had reached 1,800. As of July 26, 2012, one year after the launch of Just-1, the scorecard shows 815 provider organizations reporting, and these reporting 2,956 associated facilities, with a new total of 3,771 facilities “GLN ready”. These workshops are an important part of this campaign and the commitment to accurate and transaction-ready Global Location Numbers.

And the workshops are themselves great successes. Individual GPO efforts, one-on-one engagements with providers, and additional GLN Implementation Workshops are the drivers of this great success. As one participant at an early workshop put it: “This program hit the bull's-eye! The topics discussed are perfect for a wide range of GLN experience levels, from those who are just hearing about GLN for the first time, to those who have been implementing the GLN over the last couple of years.”

Registration is now open for all three sessions, which take place from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm on the following days and locations:
