HSCA Releases Statement on House FDA Reform Act

34
Yesterday, HSCA released a statement commending the U.S. House of Representatives for passing the FDA Reform Act of 2012, legislation which will help alleviate and avoid critical prescription drug shortages and enhance the ability of the healthcare supply chain to track and recall faulty medical devices through the use of a Unique Device Identifier (UDI). HSCA President Curtis Rooney commented specifically on these provisions, noting:

“Drug shortages are a complex issue and with advanced notification, FDA can act to relieve the pressures on the supply chain that lead to shortages… UDI will help ensure that patients can be quickly located and notified in the event of a device recall and that they do not continue to use devices that may be harmful to their health”
