GLN Progress and Additional Workshops

34
As explained by HSCA President Curtis Rooney in a recent piece for the Journal of Healthcare Contracting: “The healthcare supply chain must change! It must become more efficient, less expensive and more patient-focused.”

That reflects the belief of HSCA's Committee for Healthcare e-Standards (CHeS) and its membership of the nation’s leading group purchasing organizations. It also is the rationale behind It Just Takes One (Just-1), a campaign to bring the healthcare supply chain into a proven, standards-based environment.

In July of 2011 over 500 individual provider entities out of 5,500 known locations had declared “readiness” on the Global Location Number (GLN) Readiness Scorecard. By January 2012 that number had tripled, showing almost 100 organizations and close to 1,600 total facilities declaring GLN readiness. That number is now at 1,800. Individual GPO efforts, one-on-one engagements with providers, and additional GLN Implementation Workshops are the drivers of this great success.

Two GLN Implementation Workshops have been scheduled by cosponsors HSCA, AHRMM, SMI and GS1 Healthcare -US.

Registration is now open for 2 upcoming GLN Implementation Workshops designed to introduce best practices for GS1 Global Location Number implementation. Healthcare supply-chain professionals from provider, manufacturer and distributor organizations are invited to participate in either or both of these sessions:

• Wednesday, April 25, from 9:30AM to 2:30PM, Sweigert Hall, Rider University, Lawrenceville, NJ
• Monday, June 4, from 11:00AM to 4:00PM, Aria Resort & Casino, Las Vegas.

Space is limited to 60 attendees at each workshop. For registration information and agenda – visit http://www.gs1us.org/about-gs1-us/events/gln-implementation-workshop.

These workshops follow the success of workshops in 2011 and the most recent workshop held on February 7th, 2012 in Tampa, FL.

Just-1 has a singular focus on the GLN Registry and the essential first step for providers to review, validate and take ownership of their locations and location hierarchy. These workshops are one element of the Just-1 campaign. Find information on the campaign and associated resources on the HSCA-CHeS Just-1 Site – visit www.supplychainassociation.org/just1.
